Emperor Menelik II was an Ethiopian ruler who reigned from 1889 until his death in 1913.
He is considered a national hero in Ethiopia for his role in the fight against Italian colonial invasion. During his reign, Menelik II modernized the country and implemented significant political, economic, and social reforms. Among his achievements were the creation of a national currency, the introduction of formal education, the construction of roads and railways, and the modernization of the army.
He also established diplomatic relations with several world powers and successfully fought against the Italian invasion in the Battle of Adwa in 1896.
Menelik II is remembered as one of the most important leaders in Ethiopian history, and his reign is known as the "Era of Menelik". In addition to his political and military accomplishments, he is also known for his great love for Ethiopian arts and culture, as well as his construction of the National Palace of Addis Ababa, which now serves as a museum.
